48: palestinian short stories
48 is a collection of stories from Palestinians both in the diaspora and in occupied Palestine; stories that tackle many different aspects of the Palestinian struggle. I have titled this collection 48: Palestinian Short Stories to remind the non-Arabic audiences of 1948, as it was the year that irrevocably changed the lives of Palestinians forever. Thousands of the inhabitants of Mandatory Palestine during the 1947-1948 civil war fled or were brutally expelled from their own home to nowhere. The majority of the writers in this literary collection are patriotic; they stand against the social injustice and the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Thus, given the insurrectionary and social vision the Palestinian short stories hold, I have started in 2018 to assiduously carry out this project that could make a significant impact throughout the world. I called dozens of Palestinian short story writers, adults and youths, to translate some of their short stories into English. With the help of some translators, editors and writers, I have managed to refine and classify the compiled short stories to attain this anthology’s objective
