Nadine Foty
Nadine Foty is a Palestinian-Egyptian American early childhood educator and author of children's books about Palestine and the Arab World. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Nadine spent her childhood playing Arabic music with her family to educate American audiences about Palestine and its importance in larger social justice movements. As a young student in DC Public Schools, Nadine's classrooms lacked Palestinian and Arab representation, and simply stating she was Palestinian was a constant struggle.
As an educator, Nadine was determined to create an inclusive, safe space for all of her students in particular Palestinian and Arab students as well as students from other communities of color that are too often excluded in children's literature. Nadine developed a curriculum on Palestine, PIOS (Palestine In Our Schools) utilizing children's literature (including her own children's books), the arts, and music to teach young children about Palestine and the Arab World, and help to equip educators with the tools to talk about Palestine in their classrooms.
